Where to Find Buddhas in Nepal

Buddhas can be found all over Nepal, but the best places to shop for them are in the Kathmandu Valley and the Pokhara Valley. In Kathmandu, you can find Buddhas in the Thamel district, the Boudhanath Stupa, and the Swayambhunath Stupa. In Pokhara, you can find Buddhas in the Lakeside district and the Phewa Lake area.

Types of Buddhas

There are many different types of Buddhas, each with its own unique meaning and symbolism. Some of the most popular types of Buddhas include:

  • Shakyamuni Buddha: The historical Buddha, who lived in the 6th century BCE. He is often depicted in a seated position, with his right hand raised in the "teaching gesture" and his left hand resting in his lap.
  • Amitabha Buddha: The Buddha of Infinite Light, who is said to preside over the Western Paradise. He is often depicted in a standing position, with his hands folded in front of his chest.
  • Avalokiteshvara: The Bodhisattva of Compassion, who is said to be the embodiment of compassion and love. He is often depicted in a standing position, with his left hand raised in the "gesture of giving" and his right hand resting in his lap.
  • Manjushri: The Bodhisattva of Wisdom, who is said to be the embodiment of wisdom and knowledge. He is often depicted in a seated position, with his right hand raised in the "gesture of teaching" and his left hand holding a sword.
  • Tara: The female Bodhisattva of Compassion, who is said to be the embodiment of compassion and love. She is often depicted in a standing position, with her right hand raised in the "gesture of giving" and her left hand holding a lotus flower.

How to Choose a Buddha

When choosing a Buddha, there are a few things to keep in mind:

  • Your personal preferences: What type of Buddha do you find most appealing? What size and style of Buddha do you prefer?
  • The meaning of the Buddha: What does the Buddha represent to you? What qualities do you want to embody in your life?
  • The quality of the Buddha: Is the Buddha made of high-quality materials? Is it well-crafted? Will it last for many years to come?

Shopping for Buddhas in Nepal is a unique and rewarding experience. With so many different types of Buddhas to choose from, you are sure to find the perfect one for you. Just take your time, explore your options, and choose a Buddha that speaks to your heart.
