Larry Casuse was a man of many talents. He was a gifted artist, a skilled musician, and a passionate advocate for social justice. But above all, he was a proud member of the Turtle Mountain Band of Chippewa Indians, and he dedicated his life to fighting for the rights of his people.

Casuse was born in 1929 on the Turtle Mountain Indian Reservation in North Dakota. He grew up in poverty, and he witnessed firsthand the discrimination and racism that Native Americans faced on a daily basis. From a young age, he knew that he wanted to make a difference in the world, and he began his activism work in the 1950s.

In the early 1960s, Casuse helped to found the American Indian Movement (AIM),a national organization that fought for the rights of Native Americans. He served as AIM's national treasurer for many years, and he played a key role in organizing some of the organization's most important protests, including the Trail of Broken Treaties march in 1972 and the occupation of Wounded Knee in 1973.

Casuse's activism work often put him in danger. He was arrested and jailed on numerous occasions, and he was even shot and wounded by a police officer in 1972. But he never gave up on his fight for justice. He continued to work tirelessly for the rights of Native Americans until his death in 2013.

Casuse's legacy is a powerful one. He was a true warrior for social justice, and he helped to make a real difference in the lives of Native Americans. His story is told in a new documentary film, 'One Family on Two,' which premiered at the Sundance Film Festival in 2023.

The film is a deeply personal look at Casuse's life and work. It features interviews with his family and friends, as well as archival footage of his activism work. The film is a powerful reminder of the importance of fighting for justice, and it is a fitting tribute to the life and work of Larry Casuse.

The Fight for Native Liberation

The fight for Native liberation is a long and complex one. Native Americans have faced centuries of oppression and discrimination, and they continue to face challenges today. But there are many people who are working to make a difference, and Larry Casuse was one of them.

Casuse believed that Native Americans had a right to self-determination. He fought for their right to control their own land, their own resources, and their own destiny. He also fought for their right to live with dignity and respect.

The fight for Native liberation is not over. There is still much work to be done. But Larry Casuse's legacy will continue to inspire future generations to fight for justice.

'One Family on Two'

'One Family on Two' is a powerful and moving documentary that tells the story of Larry Casuse and his family. The film is a must-watch for anyone who is interested in Native American history, social justice, or the fight for human rights.

The film is directed by Melissa Regan, a member of the Turtle Mountain Band of Chippewa Indians. Regan's personal connection to the story is evident in the film's intimate and compassionate portrayal of Casuse and his family.

'One Family on Two' is a powerful reminder of the importance of fighting for justice. It is also a fitting tribute to the life and work of Larry Casuse, a true warrior for social justice.
